Sony STC-7000 Stereo Receiver
Early 1970s Sony, and it looks it — in the best way. The walnut case and brushed aluminum faceplate are from the period when Japanese consumer electronics manufacturers were building furniture-grade objects that happened to also be exceptional audio equipment. The STC-7000 is a full stereo receiver: FM/AM tuner, integrated amplifier, phono stage, dual tape monitor loops, microphone input with level control, and a front panel that rewards attention with every feature properly labeled and logically arranged.
The tuner dial is wide and readable. The knobs are weighted. The switches have the kind of positive action that makes you understand why people still seek these out fifty years later. Sony's build quality in this era was serious, and the STC-7000 reflects that — these were not budget entry points, they were the units serious listeners bought when Marantz and Sansui were the competition.
