ESS Heil AMT1A
The ESS Heil AMT1A stands as a piece of audio history: a speaker that combined ESS’s original Heil air-motion transformer tweeter with a robust 10" woofer, giving you a sound that feels both lightning-fast and deeply grounded. Introduced in the mid-1970s, this model pushed high frequency accuracy in ways many conventional dome tweeters could only dream of, while still managing full-range authority with the woofer below.
With a crossover point in the neighborhood of 700 Hz, the woofer shoulders the low and midrange burden, while the Heil AMT handles the treble with razor clarity and minimal distortion. The AMT’s accordion-fold diaphragm design excels in transient response, giving airy top ends and a sense of openness that makes you forget you’re listening through speakers rather than being in the musical space itself.
