Audio Research LS17 Preamplifier
Audio Research has been building tube preamplifiers in Minneapolis since 1970, and the LS17 sits in the middle of their LS line — a line-stage-only preamp using a six-tube complement in a fully balanced, differential circuit. Two 6H30 dual-triode tubes per channel, running in a topology that Audio Research has refined across decades of LS-series production. The result is the characteristic ARC presentation: wide soundstage, low noise floor, and a tube character that expresses itself as ease rather than coloration.
Line stage only — no phono. Balanced XLR and single-ended RCA inputs and outputs. Remote control. The build quality is what you expect from Audio Research: machined chassis, quality parts selection, and construction that holds up over long service intervals. Tubes are user-replaceable and readily available.
Manual included — which matters more with Audio Research than most brands, as proper bias and setup procedure affects performance.
