The Marantz Model 7 is one of the most celebrated tube preamplifiers in audio history, known for its warm musical presentation and exceptional craftsmanship. With the rare Sid Smith modifications, this Model 7 offers even greater clarity, lower noise, and improved channel accuracy. Sid Smith, the original Marantz engineer who helped define the classic Marantz sound, refined the circuit to bring out more transparency while preserving the rich tonal character that made the Model 7 legendary.
Combining historical significance with true sonic artistry, a Model 7 upgraded by Sidney (Sid) Stockton Smith is highly sought after by collectors and tube enthusiasts. It delivers a beautifully engaging listening experience and stands as one of the finest examples of vintage Marantz performance.
This specimen was number 24 of only 45 Sid modded back in the 70's and has his recommended Telefunken ECC803S / 12AX7 (super rare) throughout. The EQ circuit has been by-passed completely (straight signal path). The tone knobs and switches do nothing, the Phono EQ switch passes but makes no change when moved. Volume, Selector, Balance & Mode knobs work as they should. The line level inputs are Aux, TV, FM (multiplex) and the Phono and Tape Head are both MM phono (they're strapped together). The other labeled inputs are disengaged.

We offer a 3-day return window on all purchases. Returns made to a credit or debit card will incur a 5 percent processing fee. Shipping costs, both to and from, are the responsibility of the customer if applicable.
After the 3-day window and up to 3 weeks from the date of purchase, items may still be returned, subject to a 20 percent restocking fee.
For shipped orders, customers must notify us within 3 days of receiving the item to initiate a return. Once the item is received back in the same condition it was sent, we will issue a refund minus all shipping charges and a 5 percent credit card processing fee.
